Avsharian has cleverly framed his film about male infertility from a conventionally male perspective using hockey as a metaphor to provide both context and levity. “Pulling the Goalie” brings a lighthearted touch to a challenging health concern that exposes infertility issues with an honest yet hopeful touch. My hope is that his film will become recommended viewing for future couples with such issues, sports enthusiasts or not."
"Pulling the Goalie reminds us that the fertility journey is difficult for men, too. The film shows how painful and personal infertility is and highlights how challenging it is for men to open up and talk about what they are going through. Hiag was able to create a resource that will speak to the male experience and how friends and family can support them." Carolynn Dubé - Executive Director, Fertility Matters Canada
“Pulling the Goalie bravely shows the full range of emotions couples experience when dealing with the challenges of infertility. Hiag Avsharian’s heartfelt film permits you to laugh and cry with one such couple as they strive for the joy of welcoming new life into the world.” Jim Burnstein, Screenwriter/Director of Screenwriting, Dept of Film,TV,&Media,University of Michigan
"Despite being a short movie, Pulling The Goalie gives a deep insight into the journey of infertility and beer league hockey. Hiag Avsharian gives the audience a great glimpse of what it is like at home, inside the locker room and on the ice. The language and actions of the actors reminded me of playing late night adult league hockey while the accurate portrayal of emotions hit home for me."
